Belagavi:
Acting on a tip-off, the Malamaruti police raided the residence of a paediatrician in Belagavi city and allegedly recovered 134 grams of marijuana, raising serious concerns over professional conduct and public trust. The doctor has been arrested and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Raid Conducted at Doctor’s Residence
According to police sources, the raid was carried out at the doctor’s house in Shivabasava Nagar. During the search, ganja was allegedly found hidden in the bedroom. Preliminary investigation has also indicated that the accused may have consumed marijuana, though further verification is underway.

Police Statement and Ongoing Probe
City Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase told media outlets that a case was registered on January 9 under the NDPS Act. “A total of 134 grams of ganja were found in the bedroom of the accused’s house. The accused is a doctor by profession. Where did he procure it from? Was it meant for sale or personal consumption? These aspects are being investigated,” he said, as quoted by ETV Bharat.

Public Concern Over Professional Ethics
The incident has triggered widespread concern and debate, particularly because the accused is a paediatrician, a profession closely associated with the care and well-being of children. Members of the public and the medical fraternity have expressed shock, stressing that such cases undermine trust in healthcare professionals.

Similar Incidents Reported Earlier
This is not an isolated case, as earlier reports had highlighted the arrest of a doctor running a private hospital in Vikarabad for allegedly operating a marijuana racket. In that case, the doctor was found with 65 grams of ganja and was accused of engaging in illegal drug trade for quick financial gains, raising broader questions about ethical lapses within the medical profession.
