Third Guinness World Record in 15 Months Highlights AI’s Growing Role in Public Health Education
Hyderabad: Renowned breast cancer surgeon Dr P. Raghu Ram, Founding Director of KIMS-Ushalakshmi Centre for Breast Diseases, has created a new Guinness World Record by hosting the world’s largest audience for an interactive AI-powered holographic health awareness lecture. The achievement marks his third Guinness World Record in just 15 months and underscores the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in healthcare education and public awareness.
The record-setting event featured an AI-generated holographic avatar of Dr Raghu Ram delivering a detailed lecture on breast health awareness. The virtual presentation interacted with the audience in real time, answering questions in multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil. The AI-powered educator provided evidence-based information on breast diseases, breast cancer, screening methods, risk factors, and the importance of early detection.
Guinness World Record Recognises Innovation in AI-Enabled Health Education
The Guinness World Records title was awarded under a newly introduced category that recognises innovation in AI-powered holographic health education. The initiative demonstrates how emerging technologies can be leveraged to improve healthcare literacy and reach large populations with accurate medical information.
Speaking on the occasion, National Medical Commission Chairman Dr Abhijat Sheth lauded the initiative and described it as a significant public health innovation with the potential to positively impact countless individuals through accessible health education.
Launch of NARI: AI-Powered Breast Health Information Platform
The event also witnessed the launch of NARI (National Awareness & Resource Initiative for Breast Health), an AI-driven digital platform designed to provide 24/7 access to reliable and evidence-based breast health information. The platform enables users to seek guidance and ask questions in multiple Indian languages, helping bridge awareness gaps, especially in underserved and rural communities.
KIMS Hospitals Chairman Bhaskar Rao stated that the project showcases the responsible use of artificial intelligence to expand health education and public engagement on a large scale.
Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu Praises Achievement
Former Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu congratulated Dr Raghu Ram on securing his third Guinness World Record title within 15 months. In a post on social media platform X, he described the accomplishment as a remarkable milestone in public service and healthcare awareness.
Breast Cancer Cases Rising Among Younger Women in India
Addressing the gathering, Dr Raghu Ram highlighted the increasing burden of breast cancer in India, noting that more cases are now being diagnosed among younger women, particularly in the 40–50 years age group. He stressed that lack of awareness, social stigma, and the absence of organised screening programmes continue to contribute to delayed diagnosis.
“Every four minutes, a woman in India is diagnosed with breast cancer, and every eight minutes, a woman dies from the disease. Early detection remains the best cure,” he said.
He also emphasised the urgent need for a robust national cancer registry and expanded population-based screening programmes under the National Health Mission. According to him, accurate cancer data collection remains a major challenge, with many cases still going unregistered across the country.
Call for Stronger Cancer Screening and Registration Programmes
Dr Raghu Ram welcomed ongoing efforts by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strengthen cancer registration and screening initiatives nationwide. He noted that effective screening programmes can significantly reduce the burden of advanced-stage cancers and improve patient outcomes.
Referring to Telangana’s experience, he pointed out that population-based screening initiatives have demonstrated the value of early detection by reducing the number of advanced cancer cases presenting at hospitals.
Inspired by Mother’s Cancer Journey
Dr Raghu Ram’s commitment to breast cancer awareness was shaped by his mother, Dr Ushalakshmi, a breast cancer survivor and gynaecologist who was diagnosed in 2002. Inspired by her journey, he established the Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation and later founded South Asia’s first comprehensive breast disease centre in Hyderabad in 2007.
A graduate of Siddhartha Medical College, Dr Raghu Ram received advanced surgical training in the United Kingdom and earned the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1996. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to healthcare and cancer awareness, he was awarded the Padma Shri in 2015.
AI and Healthcare Awareness: A New Frontier
The Guinness World Record achievement not only celebrates technological innovation but also highlights the growing role of artificial intelligence in healthcare communication. Experts believe AI-powered health education platforms such as NARI could play a crucial role in improving awareness, promoting early detection, and reducing the burden of breast cancer across India.
