Bhopal:
A 24-year-old assistant professor from the Emergency and Trauma Department of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal passed away after battling for life for nearly 25 days. She had allegedly taken an overdose of an anaesthetic injection at her residence and had been undergoing treatment at the institute, where she was on ventilator support in critical condition.
Background of the Incident
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported in December 2025 that the doctor was found unconscious at home, with initial suspicion pointing towards an overdose of a sedative drug. According to her husband, everything was normal at home before the incident, and the family was left in shock when she was discovered unconscious. Despite sustained medical efforts, her condition did not improve, and she was eventually declared dead.
Husband Alleges Mental Harassment
Following her death, the doctor’s husband, who is also a medical professional, accused AIIMS Bhopal of subjecting his wife to mental harassment and fostering a toxic work environment. He alleged that she was repeatedly humiliated in front of patients, junior doctors, and colleagues, and was deliberately targeted by her department after joining the trauma centre in December 2023.
Claims of Targeting and Conspiracy
In statements to the media, the husband claimed that false and misleading complaints were filed against his wife. He questioned the authenticity of a complaint allegedly lodged by a patient accusing her of misbehaviour with junior doctors, stating that the language and content of the complaint suggested planning and conspiracy. He also alleged that while junior doctors were provided chambers, his wife was denied basic office space, further affecting her morale.
Inquiry Ordered by the Institute
Taking note of the serious allegations, AIIMS Bhopal has constituted a high-level committee to conduct a confidential inquiry into the matter. The findings of the committee are yet to be made public. Meanwhile, the bereaved family has demanded accountability, stating that the loss has devastated them and left their young child without a mother.
