Introduction of New Robotic Systems
King George’s Medical University (KGMU) is set to enhance its advanced surgical capabilities by acquiring two new robotic surgical systems—one each for the Urology and Orthopaedics departments.

Current Robotic Surgery Status
KGMU currently operates two robotic systems in the General Surgery and Surgical Oncology departments, funded through CSR contributions six months ago. Despite the high cost of robotic procedures, only 26 surgeries have been conducted so far.

Funding and Approval
The government has approved a third robotic system for Urology at an estimated Rs 28 crore, while a fourth system for Orthopaedics costing around Rs 12 crore is awaiting approval. These systems are expected to assist in complex surgeries and improve patient outcomes.

Comparison with Other Institutions
Other medical institutions, such as the Lohia Institute, have advanced more rapidly, performing over 100 robotic surgeries in Urology and Nephrology in the past three months alone, with 60% related to cancer care.

Independence Day Initiatives
As part of Independence Day initiatives, KGMU will launch two Hospital Revolving Fund (HRF) pharmacy outlets in the Orthopaedics Super Speciality Building and Ophthalmology Department, offering medicines and implants at 60–70% lower prices than the market rate.

Quality and Accreditation Efforts
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sonia Nityanand highlighted that KGMU, having achieved the highest NAAC grade of A++, is now working toward NABH accreditation. Nineteen NAAC standards have been met in the past seven months as part of efforts to enhance patient services.

Looking Ahead
The expansion of robotic surgery and affordable pharmacy services aims to strengthen KGMU’s position as a leading center for advanced medical care in Uttar Pradesh.
