New Healthcare Facility
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a 250-bed super-speciality private hospital in Gorakhpur, equipped with an 80-bed ICU, marking a major expansion in advanced medical care for eastern UP, northwest Bihar, and Nepal.
Government Support for Healthcare
Adityanath highlighted that the district now has ample healthcare options, supported by schemes like Ayushman Yojana and Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana for those who cannot afford treatment. Over the past year, Rs 1,100 crore has been allocated from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for healthcare development.
Evolution of Medical Infrastructure
Ten years ago, BRD Medical College was the only major healthcare facility in eastern UP, which itself faced challenges. Under the current government, the medical college has improved, and multiple hospitals, including AIIMS Gorakhpur, have been established. Adityanath listed other districts now hosting medical colleges, including Basti, Siddharthnagar, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Deoria, Ayodhya, Jaunpur, Bahraich, Balrampur, Gonda, Pratapgarh, Azamgarh, Ambedkarnagar, Chandauli, and Mirzapur, with Ballia slated to get one soon.
Historical Reference and Healthcare Vision
The CM recalled the Guru Gorakhnath Hospital model, which operated two decades ago to provide healthcare accessible to all based on affordability, emphasizing the ongoing commitment to inclusive healthcare.
Upcoming Initiatives
The Uttar Pradesh government has announced plans to launch specialist doctor consultations at Community Health Centers (CHCs) across the state under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in the 2025-26 financial year, aiming to further improve healthcare accessibility.
