Sexual exploitation, forced conversion case takes serious turn with terror link allegations
Lucknow: The resident doctor who was recently barred from continuing his medical course at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) and arrested in connection with allegations of sexual exploitation and forced religious conversion has now come under scrutiny for alleged links to an accused in the 10/11 Delhi car blast near the Red Fort.
Fresh Allegations During Investigation
During the ongoing police investigation, authorities have flagged the doctor’s alleged association with one of the accused in last year’s Delhi blast case, in which several people were killed and many injured. Police are also examining his suspected links with the banned Islamic outfit Popular Front of India (PFI).
Contact Through Seminars and Calls
According to Deccan Chronicle sources, the doctor reportedly came in contact with the accused woman at seminars and conferences. Investigators claim that the two later remained in regular touch over phone calls. Police sources have described the accused as part of a so-called “white-collar” terror module.
Arrest and Interrogation Revelations
A few days earlier, a joint team of West Lucknow Surveillance Unit and Chowk Police arrested the absconding KGMU resident doctor, who was carrying a reward of ₹50,000. During interrogation, police alleged that while absconding, he sought legal help from PFI and admitted to considering fugitive Islamic preacher Zakir Naik as his ideal.
Alleged Network Under Scanner
Investigating agencies are now probing whether the accused was part of a wider network operating in other parts of Uttar Pradesh. Officials are attempting to identify others who may have been involved in the alleged racket linked to forced conversion and extremist connections.
Female Doctor’s Allegations
The case surfaced after a woman doctor accused her colleague of emotionally exploiting her and pressuring her to convert to Islam for marriage. She claimed continued harassment after refusing to convert, which led to severe mental distress and an alleged suicide attempt on December 27 by consuming a large quantity of medicines in her hostel room.
Previous Marriage Raises Questions
It has also emerged that the accused doctor allegedly married a batchmate in February this year after she reportedly converted her religion. Both were studying at Agra Medical College at the time, adding another layer of complexity to the case.
Case Handed Over to STF
KGMU’s fact-finding and Vishakha Committee found the doctor guilty of the charges and barred him from the campus. Following this, Vice-Chancellor Dr Soniya Nityanand briefed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, after which the case was handed over to the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF). The STF has begun its probe, and the university’s internal inquiry committee has been dissolved.
