NEW DELHI: With the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) fast approaching, the Government of India is intensifying efforts to make the 2025 edition the largest and most inclusive celebration yet. A high-level Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) meeting was convened at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, Chanakyapuri, to strategize preparations and mobilize collective national action.
The meeting reflected the government’s strong emphasis on a Whole-of-Government Approach, bringing together senior officials from key ministries, Ayush institutions, and other stakeholders.
Union Minister’s Vision: “Yoga for Every Citizen”
Delivering the keynote address, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush, emphasized that IDY is more than a symbolic observance—it is a nationwide movement fostering holistic health. He highlighted the success of over 250 events across India and abroad since March 13, as part of the countdown to IDY 2025.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s address at the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva, the Minister underlined India’s global leadership in promoting wellness and urged ministries and institutions to participate actively in the flagship event, Yoga Sangam.
IDY 2025: A Global Wellness Movement
Ministry of Ayush Secretary underscored that IDY has grown into one of the largest global health movements, with a record 24 crore participants in 2024. For the upcoming IDY on 21st June 2025, the Ministry aims to organize over 1 lakh simultaneous yoga sessions nationwide.
The national-level event will be held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the session. The mega event is expected to attract over 5 lakh participants.
Theme and Signature Events
The 2025 celebration will revolve around the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” aligning with the WHO’s “One World, One Health” philosophy. As part of this effort, 10 Signature Events targeting key sectors will be held to deepen impact and engagement.
Widespread Participation and Tourism Integration
The Ministries of Tourism and Culture will host yoga events at 150 iconic sites, promoting India’s cultural and spiritual heritage. Officials also shared progress on the ‘Yoga Unplugged’ series on MyGov, an initiative engaging digital audiences.
Call to Action
Joint Secretary Ms. Monalisa Dash concluded by stating, “International Day of Yoga is not just an event—it’s a celebration of India’s timeless gift to the world. Our focus is on deeper engagement, wider outreach, and lasting impact.”
The meeting wrapped up with a strong call for collective action to ensure IDY 2025 is marked by unprecedented participation, transformative health impact, and global solidarity.
