JODHPUR: In a deeply tragic and concerning incident, a woman doctor from Dr Sampurnanand Medical College and Hospital, Jodhpur, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her hostel room earlier this week. She was reportedly preparing for the upcoming NEET-PG exam scheduled for June 15, 2025.

Body Discovered After Foul Odour Alert

The incident came to light late Tuesday evening after hostel residents reported a strong foul smell emanating from the room. Upon being alerted, the hospital authorities informed the police, who broke open the locked door and discovered the decomposed body lying on the bed. Preliminary findings suggest the body was at least two days old.

Mental Health and Personal Struggles

The deceased, a native of Sawai Madhopur, had completed her MBBS two months ago and was staying in the hostel to focus on her postgraduate entrance preparation. She was a 2014 batch student, and her prolonged course completion time has led authorities to believe she might have been under considerable stress.

Investigations reveal that she was under treatment for schizophrenia and had become increasingly socially withdrawn. Hostelmates noted her reserved nature and limited interaction with others. According to police, she last spoke to her mother and brother on Sunday night, after which she may have taken the extreme step.

Police Probe Underway

Zulfikar Ali, SHO of Shastri Nagar Police Station, confirmed that an FIR has been registered and a postmortem was conducted after the arrival of her family on Wednesday. “She had been battling depression, possibly due to repeated exam failures and her ongoing health issues,” he told reporters.

A Grim Reminder

This unfortunate incident serves as yet another grim reminder of the mental health challenges faced by medical students and professionals. The pressure of high-stakes exams like NEET-PG, compounded by personal or psychological struggles, continues to take a heavy toll.

Authorities have launched a thorough investigation to determine if the death was due to suicide or foul play. Further details will emerge following forensic reports and digital evidence analysis.
