CHANDIGARH: Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean of Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, was honoured at a prestigious felicitation ceremony held at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. The recognition comes in acknowledgment of his exceptional leadership and coordination during the recent war-like situation in the Jammu, Poonch, and Rajouri regions.
The event celebrated the dedication of medical professionals who provided crucial care in conflict-hit zones. Dr. Gupta was specially recognised for his swift and strategic response, which included the deployment of mobile medical teams, establishment of specialised treatment zones in the hospital, and provision of advanced surgical and diagnostic care to injured civilians and personnel.
In his speech, Dr. Gupta dedicated the honour to his entire team—including faculty, nursing staff, and paramedical personnel—highlighting their tireless service during the emergency. “It was the collective commitment and teamwork of every medical professional involved that made our mission successful,” he stated.
Background and Achievements
Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, who previously served as Professor and Head of the Department of Radiation Oncology, was appointed Principal of GMC Jammu in 2023. He succeeded former principal Dr. Shashi Sudan Sharma, who was removed following allegations of age-related document tampering.
Since assuming leadership, Dr. Gupta has spearheaded major reforms in GMC Jammu, including infrastructural upgrades, research facilitation, and initiatives to enhance the quality of medical education. His tenure has also seen the institution navigate significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, while maintaining high standards of patient care and academic excellence.
