Complaints from Trainees and Staff

The Principal of Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College and Hospital, Hamirpur, has been accused of inappropriate behaviour towards women trainees, medical students, nursing staff, and paramedics. Multiple complainants approached the government demanding strict action.

Government Orders Probe

Acting on the complaint, the Department of Medical Education and Research constituted a four-member inquiry committee on August 30. The panel is headed by Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Director of Medical Education and Research, with members including Dr. Milap Sharma (Principal, Tanda Medical College), Dr. Parveen Kumar Sharma (Controller of Examinations, Atal Medical University), and Dr. Ritu Shitak (Professor of Pharmacology, Hamirpur Medical College).

Statements Recorded, Report Awaited

The committee visited Hamirpur Medical College last week, where they recorded testimonies of 35 individuals, including complainants. While the inquiry has reached its conclusion, Dr. Rakesh Sharma declined to share findings, saying he was not authorised to disclose details. The final report is expected to be submitted to the government within two days.

Special Secretary’s Directive

Special Secretary (Health) Ashwani Kumar Sharma had ordered the inquiry and directed the committee to submit its report within seven days.

College Expansion Plans

Meanwhile, Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College is preparing to begin admissions in postgraduate courses. The Himachal Pradesh government has approved the creation of six associate professor and 10 assistant professor posts in key departments, including medicine, paediatrics, surgery, orthopaedics, anaesthesia, and radiology. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu earlier stressed that specialists are the backbone of medical colleges and that PG courses are essential for strengthening healthcare services.
