Unique Tournament Launched by Pujara

In a first-of-its-kind initiative, doctors from across India will compete in the Indian Healthcare League (IHL) — a cricket tournament blending sport, fitness, and social responsibility. The event was officially launched by Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara in New Delhi.

Six Regional Teams to Compete

Modelled on the IPL format, the IHL features six regional teams:

  • Delhi Aavataars
  • Gujarat Lionhearts
  • Rajasthan Lake-city Warriors
  • Maharashtra Med Titans
  • Haryana Juggernauts
  • Uttar Pradesh Super Kings

Doctors from leading hospitals including AIIMS, Max, and Fortis will participate. The matches aim to foster camaraderie while raising awareness on cancer prevention and mental well-being of healthcare workers.

Focus on Cancer and Mental Health

According to organisers, the league is designed not only as a wellness initiative but also as a movement with dual objectives:

  1. To place the spotlight on cancer awareness as the primary mission.
  2. To champion mental health among doctors, who often neglect their own well-being while caring for patients.

Pujara Hails “Movement for Change”

Speaking at the launch, Pujara said:

“The Indian Healthcare League is a unique initiative that celebrates those who dedicate their lives to keeping us healthy. Its mission of spreading cancer awareness and strengthening mental well-being among doctors makes it more than a sporting event — it is a movement for change.”

He expressed hope that IHL could grow into India’s second-biggest sporting event, inspiring society to embrace fitness and preventive health.

Doctors’ Wellness in Focus

IHL CEO Nishant Mehta added:

“Doctors spend their lives taking care of others, but rarely of themselves. Through this league, we focus on their wellness while using sport as a platform to highlight cancer and mental health. The impact will benefit both the medical community and society at large.”
