One Caught Red-Handed Accepting Rs 15 Lakh in Ahmedabad, Says ACB
Ahmedabad: In a major anti-corruption operation, the Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has booked two senior health department officials—one serving and the other retired—for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 30 lakh from two public sector doctors facing departmental inquiries.
The accused have been identified as Dinesh B Parmar, Additional Secretary for Primary and Departmental Inquiry (Medical Education Service, GMERS), and Dr. Girish Jethalal Parmar, former Dean of Government Dental College and Hospital, Ahmedabad.
Dr. Girish Parmar was arrested from his residence in Ahmedabad’s Shahibaug area on Tuesday, after he was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting Rs 15 lakh—the first installment of the demanded bribe.
Backstory of Bribery Demand
The complainant, a former deputy director in the Health and Medical Services department at Bhavnagar, had previously taken disciplinary action against staff over bogus medical practices. In retaliation, a counter-complaint was filed against him, resulting in his suspension along with a colleague. A departmental probe was initiated, with its report submitted in January 2025.
During this period, Girish Parmar allegedly contacted the complainant through an intermediary and arranged a meeting with Dinesh Parmar in Gandhinagar. The two officers allegedly demanded Rs 30 lakh in exchange for a favourable report in the ongoing inquiry—Rs 15 lakh upfront and the remainder after the report’s amendment.
Instead of complying, the complainant alerted the ACB, which then set up a trap. A team led by Police Inspectors S N Barot and A K Chauhan arrested Girish Parmar after a recorded conversation and recovery of the bribe money.
Further investigation into the bribery racket is currently underway.
