Vellore : A residential premises of a junior doctor at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, was searched by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday. Police sources said the operation was linked to the doctor’s family business and not his professional role at CMC.

Details of the Raid
A seven-member ED team from Chennai, accompanied by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel, conducted the search at around 7.30 a.m. in the doctor’s quarters near the CMC campus. The targeted residence was part of a two-storey building allocated to the employee.

CMC Clarifies No Institutional Link
In a statement, Dr. Vikram Mathews, Director of CMC, emphasized that the action was personal and had no connection with the functioning of the medical college. He clarified that portraying the incident as an ED raid at CMC was factually incorrect and misleading.

Institution Functioning Normally
Dr. Mathews reiterated that “No ED raid, search, or investigation happened at CMC, and the institution was functioning normally without any disruption.” He stressed that CMC’s operations and patient care continued unaffected throughout the morning.

Nature of Investigation
Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the nature of the investigation related to the doctor’s family business. The focus of the ED action appears strictly personal and outside the scope of his professional duties.

Context of ED Operations
The ED has recently intensified its scrutiny of high-profile corruption and money-laundering cases across India. Earlier, the agency had attached assets worth Rs 2.58 crore under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in a case involving Himachal Pradesh’s Assistant Drug Controller.

Prior ED Action
The seized assets in the Himachal case included a residential flat in Panchkula’s Sector-20 and a property in Shimla. The Enforcement Directorate has been actively investigating alleged bribery, forgery, and accumulation of disproportionate assets in multiple cases.

Assurance to Public and Students
CMC officials assured patients, students, and staff that the institution remains fully operational and unaffected by the ED’s search. The college reiterated that all activities, including teaching and healthcare services, continue as usual.
