Jammu: Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Jammu, highlighted the institute’s growing stature as a hub for cutting-edge medical care, research, and patient-centric services, including the country’s only Centre for Advanced Genomics and Precision Medicine among all AIIMS.
Comprehensive Cancer Care
The expanding Oncology Unit now offers chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy, bringing comprehensive cancer care closer to patients in Jammu and Kashmir, Prof. Gupta said.
Advanced Diagnostic Facilities
AIIMS Jammu’s biochemistry laboratory, equipped with waterless dry chemistry technology, ensures high-volume, rapid, and accurate diagnostic reporting, improving overall healthcare delivery across the region.
Rapid Infrastructure Development
Despite challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, AIIMS Jammu completed 43 major buildings in three and a half years. The quality and pace of construction earned national recognition, with CPWD receiving the Best Project Award at its 170th Annual Day.
Clinical Achievements
The institute has treated over 3.68 lakh OPD patients, admitted 8,783 inpatients, managed 22,810 emergency cases, and performed 3,283 surgeries across eight modular operation theatres. Critical care was provided to 1,297 ICU patients, alongside 1,624 dialysis sessions, 60,000 X-rays, 34,000 ultrasounds, 13,500 CT scans, and over 4,000 MRIs.
Super Speciality Services
AIIMS Jammu has operationalized multiple Super Speciality Departments, including Endocrinology, Pediatric Surgery, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, Neurosurgery, Urology, Burns and Plastic Surgery, Surgical and Medical Gastroenterology, Neonatology, Pulmonary Medicine, Surgical Oncology, and Cardiology, reducing the need for patients to travel outside the region for advanced treatment.
Patient-Centric Initiatives
Technological tools such as the AIIMS Indoor Navigation App, Patient Care Manager, Rogi Sahayak Mitra system, Parikrama Seva e-carts, Swasthya App, and dedicated AYUSH screening enhance convenience and accessibility for patients.
Academic and Research Excellence
AIIMS Jammu has expanded from a single MBBS batch to six batches of 100 students each, along with B.Sc. Nursing, MD/MS, MDS, and M.Ch programmes. With over 140 ongoing research projects and collaborations with IIT Jammu, IIM Jammu, and the University of Alabama, the institute is emerging as a strong research-driven institution.
National Recognition and Vision
AIIMS Jammu secured 7th place in Outlook Magazine’s 2025 ranking of Government Medical Universities, second only to AIIMS Delhi. Prof. Gupta emphasized, “AIIMS Jammu is not just about treating diseases; it is about healing lives, nurturing hope, and building a healthier tomorrow for generations to come.”
