Ranchi: The Jharkhand Health Department has decided to ensure that treatment for serious and complex diseases is available within the state itself, reducing the need for patients to seek advanced medical care outside Jharkhand.

High-Level Decision on Healthcare Expansion

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Additional Chief Secretary of Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, Ajay Kumar Singh. The meeting focused on strengthening in-state medical infrastructure for critical illnesses.

Key Government Hospitals Identified

It was resolved that comprehensive treatment facilities will be developed at major government hospitals, including Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi, Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Memorial Medical College and Hospital in Dhanbad, Sadar Hospital in Ranchi, and MGM Medical College and Hospital in Jamshedpur.

Wide Range of Critical Diseases Covered

The scheme will cover treatment for serious conditions such as all forms of cancer, kidney transplantation, severe liver diseases, acid attack injuries, and rare disorders including thalassaemia, blood-related diseases, and conditions requiring bone marrow transplantation.

Advanced Surgical and Critical Care Services

Patients will also receive access to advanced surgical and critical care procedures. These include plastic and reconstructive surgery for trauma and burn cases, retinal detachment surgery, complex brain injury management, cardiac bypass surgery with advanced support systems, and intensive renal therapies for critically ill patients.

Care for Rare and Congenital Disorders

The initiative further includes treatment for eye disorders related to diabetes, complex paediatric and congenital conditions, brain haemorrhage, hearing-related interventions like cochlear implants, muscular disorders, and other rare but high-risk medical conditions.

Public and Private Hospital Participation

The Additional Chief Secretary stated that all required infrastructure will be ensured to make treatment accessible within Jharkhand. Along with government hospitals, selected private hospitals will also provide treatment under this initiative, with disease-specific packages already finalised to ensure smooth implementation.

Scheme-Based Support and Special Focus Areas

Treatment will be provided under the Chief Minister Abua Health Security Scheme through predefined packages. Special emphasis will be placed on sickle cell anaemia, with comprehensive facilities planned at Sadar Hospital and a proposed collaboration with CMC Vellore to enable bone marrow transplants in Ranchi itself.
