Lucknow:
A joint team of the Surveillance Unit of West Lucknow and Police Station Chowk has arrested a wanted resident doctor of King George’s Medical University (KGMU), carrying a reward of ₹50,000, in connection with serious allegations including repeated sexual assault on a junior medical student under the pretext of marriage and coercion for religious conversion.

Arrest After Prolonged Absconding
The arrest was carried out on the directions of the Police Commissioner, Lucknow, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vishwajeet Srivastava and Additional DCP Dhananjay Singh Kushwaha. The operation was guided by ACP Chowk Rajkumar Singh and led by Inspector-in-Charge Chowk Nagesh Upadhyay. Acting on informer inputs and electronic surveillance, the accused was apprehended on Friday around 2.40 pm near the City Station gate in Lucknow, according to UNI.

Details of the Complaint
The case stems from a complaint filed on December 23, 2025, by a junior female medical student at KGMU. She alleged that her senior doctor established physical relations with her by promising marriage, forced her to undergo an abortion without consent, and pressured her to convert her religion. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered at Chowk police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021.

More Victims and Family Involvement Alleged
During the investigation, police found that the accused had allegedly committed similar offences against another female medical student, including rape, forced abortion and coercion for religious conversion. Evidence also suggested involvement of the accused’s family members in pressuring the victim and attempting to forcibly arrange her marriage with the accused’s son, leading to the addition of more stringent legal sections in the case.

Reward, Background and Ongoing Probe
The accused had been absconding since the registration of the case, prompting the Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime and Headquarters), Lucknow, to announce a reward of ₹50,000 for his arrest. His parents were arrested earlier on January 5, 2026, and sent to judicial custody. At the time of arrest, the accused was living in a rented flat in Thakurganj, while his permanent address is in Pilibhit district. Police said further legal proceedings are underway and details of other possible criminal cases against him are being verified.
