New Delhi: Union Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers and Health & Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, inaugurated the weeklong Jan Aushadhi Diwas 2025 celebrations by flagging off a Rath (Chariot) and 10 vehicles from Nirman Bhawan to spread awareness about the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) in the National Capital Region (NCR). Union Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers, Ms. Anupriya Patel, and Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Shri Amit Agrawal, were also present.
Key Highlights of the Event
Jan Aushadhi Diwas Awareness Campaign: Shri Nadda urged citizens to participate actively and create a Jan-Andolan (People’s Movement) for affordable medicines. Weeklong Celebrations: Ms. Anupriya Patel outlined the seven-day nationwide program from March 1st to March 7th, 2025, leading up to Jan Aushadhi Diwas on March 7th.
PMBJP Expansion:
15,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs) opened across the country as of February 28, 2025. Target to establish 25,000 Kendras by March 31, 2027. Offers 2,047 generic medicines and 300 surgical items at 50% to 80% lower prices than branded alternatives.
- Economic Impact:
- In FY 2023-24, PMBJP recorded ₹1,470 crore in sales, leading to ₹7,350 crore in savings for citizens.
- In FY 2024-25 (till February 28, 2025), sales reached ₹1,760 crore.
- Over the last 10 years, savings of approximately ₹30,000 crore have benefited the public.
- Expanded Medicine & Equipment Coverage:
- Covers 29 major therapeutic groups, including antibiotics, anti-cancer drugs, anti-diabetics, cardiovascular drugs, vitamins, and minerals.
- Includes 300 surgical consumables like masks, syringes, sanitary napkins, sutures, and oximeters.
The PMBJP initiative continues to ensure affordable healthcare, making quality medicines accessible to all, and reducing out-of-pocket medical expenses for millions of Indians.
