Doctors Protest, Demand Immediate Arrest of All Accused Captured in CCTV Footage

Udaipur: In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage across the medical community, nine individuals have been detained after a mob allegedly vandalised a private hospital and assaulted doctors and healthcare staff in Udaipur’s Kumharon Ka Bhatta area following allegations of medical negligence.

The incident occurred at JP Orthopaedic Hospital and led to widespread protests by doctors, who demanded strict action against those responsible and enhanced security measures at healthcare facilities.

According to Udaipur Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan, the detentions were made based on a formal complaint lodged by the hospital management. Police have launched an investigation into the incident, while CCTV footage of the attack has surfaced online and is being widely circulated on social media.

Dispute Erupted After Accident Victim’s Condition Deteriorated

As per reports, the controversy began after a 50-year-old textile trader from Koon village in the Lasadiya region was admitted to the hospital following a road accident on Tuesday.

The man was travelling to Udaipur on his motorcycle when he met with an accident near Kanod, sustaining fractures in both arms. Local residents rushed him to the private hospital, where he underwent surgery later that afternoon.

Family members alleged that the patient failed to regain consciousness after the operation. His brother claimed that the victim was stable when he arrived at the hospital and had admitted himself voluntarily. However, tensions escalated when his health reportedly deteriorated after surgery.

Mob Allegedly Entered Operation Theatre, Assaulted Medical Staff

The situation turned violent around 9 pm, prompting police teams from three police stations to rush to the hospital.

Doctors alleged that a large group of people forcibly entered the operation theatre, damaged hospital property, and physically assaulted medical personnel.

The State President of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), who was present at the hospital during the incident, also claimed that he was attacked by members of the mob.

“I was subjected to abusive behaviour, my clothes were torn, and I was dragged along the road,” he alleged.

Medical Fraternity Warns of Strike, Seeks Strong Action

Condemning the attack, medical associations across the region demanded immediate arrests of all those involved. Doctors warned that failure to take swift action could force the medical fraternity to suspend services.

A meeting of doctors was subsequently held at RNT Medical College to formulate a strategy regarding the incident.

Representatives of the medical community later met Superintendent of Police Amrita Duhan and sought prompt action against the accused.

Doctors Resume Work After Police Assurance

Following assurances from the police administration, protesting doctors agreed to resume work after authorities promised action against the accused within five days.

The IMA State President stated that CCTV footage showed nearly 40 to 50 individuals participating in the attack. He urged police to identify and arrest every person involved, noting that only nine suspects had been detained initially.

Patient’s Condition Improving, Investigation Continues

Meanwhile, police officials said the condition of the patient at the centre of the dispute is currently improving.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, while medical associations remain firm in their demand for strict legal action against all those responsible for the violence inside the hospital.
