The Healthy Indian Project (THIP) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Society of Lifestyle Medicine (ISLM) to develop evidence-based digital patient education programmes on Childhood Obesity and Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD). The initiative aims to help patients and caregivers better understand lifestyle-related conditions and adopt sustainable changes alongside clinical treatment.

Focus on Evidence-Based Patient Education

The collaboration comes amid growing concerns over obesity, diabetes, fatty liver disease, PCOD and other lifestyle-related disorders in India. Healthcare experts increasingly recognise that medicines alone may not be sufficient for achieving sustainable long-term outcomes, making patient understanding and lifestyle modification important components of disease management.

Under the partnership, ISLM will act as the Knowledge Partner and provide scientific review and academic oversight. THIP Academy, the digital patient education platform of THIP, will develop the curriculum, create the learning experience and deliver the programmes through its self-paced online platform.

Digital Learning for Patients and Caregivers

The programmes will go beyond conventional patient information leaflets and awareness campaigns by providing structured digital learning experiences. Patients and caregivers will be able to access expert-led videos, interactive modules, assessments and practical guidance at their convenience.

The initiative reflects the growing role of medical societies in improving public understanding of health conditions. Digital patient education platforms are also emerging as a means of providing patients with credible and evidence-based health information outside the clinical consultation setting.

Lifestyle Medicine has gained greater relevance as clinical guidelines across various specialities increasingly recognise nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress management and other behavioural interventions as important components of chronic disease management alongside medical treatment.

What the Experts Said

Dr. Lakshmi Sundar, President, Indian Society of Lifestyle Medicine (ISLM), said patients often receive valuable advice during consultations, but translating that advice into sustained behavioural changes remains a major healthcare challenge.

She said the partnership with THIP Academy would help extend evidence-based patient education beyond clinics and make it accessible to people across the country, while using digital platforms to encourage positive behavioural changes.

Sudipta Sengupta, CEO, The Healthy Indian Project, said advances in medical science need to be accompanied by improvements in patient understanding. He said THIP Academy aims to create structured digital learning programmes with scientific expertise from leading medical associations serving as Knowledge Partners.

Programmes to Begin With Childhood Obesity and PCOD

The first programmes under the partnership will focus on Childhood Obesity and PCOD, conditions in which sustained lifestyle modification can play an important role alongside clinical management.

The collaboration is expected to expand into additional Lifestyle Medicine programmes covering other areas of preventive and chronic disease care.
