25-Year-Old Woman Dies After Giving Birth to Twins at Kota’s JK Lon Hospital
A 25-year-old woman died at Kota’s JK Lon Hospital on Tuesday, a day after undergoing a Caesarean section to deliver twins, marking the second reported maternal death at the hospital within two days. Hospital authorities attributed the death to severe complications believed to be linked to postpartum eclampsia, while the woman’s husband has alleged that her condition deteriorated after she was administered a fluid.
Woman Developed Severe Complications After Delivery
The woman, a resident of the Kaithun area, underwent a Caesarean section at around 6 pm on Monday to deliver twins. She had previously undergone a Caesarean delivery.
According to JK Lon Hospital Superintendent Dr Nirmala Sharma, the woman’s blood pressure had reportedly remained normal during the earlier months of pregnancy but had increased significantly by the time she reached the hospital.
Hospital records reportedly showed that she had been prescribed medication for high blood pressure from the seventh month of pregnancy. However, the hospital administration said she was unaware of the prescription.
Pre-operative blood tests conducted during the latest pregnancy reportedly showed abnormalities associated with high blood pressure, including indicators of impaired liver and kidney function.
Sudden Deterioration During Early Hours
After delivering the twins, the woman was reportedly conscious and spoke normally with her family members on Monday night. However, at around 3:30 am on Tuesday, her condition suddenly deteriorated.
She reportedly experienced two episodes of vomiting, followed by severe anxiety, rapid breathing, violent jerking and tongue-biting.
Dr Sharma said the patient developed postpartum eclampsia. During the seizures, vomit entered her lungs, resulting in a sharp decline in blood oxygen saturation from 86% to 62%, along with a fall in blood pressure.
According to the hospital superintendent, necessary medicines were administered and specialists were called, but the patient’s condition could not be stabilised.
Husband Alleges Deterioration After Fluid Administration
The woman’s husband has alleged that her condition began worsening after she was administered a fluid.
The allegation has not been established, and the hospital has attributed the death to complications associated with postpartum eclampsia.
The death occurred a day after a 34-year-old woman died following delivery at JK Lon Hospital on Monday, making this the second reported maternal death at the facility within two days.
