AI-Powered Patient Monitoring System Helps Prevent 115 Cardiac Emergencies at Marengo CIMS Hospital

An AI-powered patient monitoring system deployed at Marengo CIMS Hospital has reportedly helped prevent 115 cardiac Code Blue emergencies and identify 836 instances of patient deterioration over the past two and a half years. According to the hospital, more than 6,551 high-risk patients have been monitored through the platform, which uses wearable biosensors and real-time alerts to support early clinical intervention.

Continuous Monitoring of High-Risk Patients

The system uses wearable biosensors to continuously track vital parameters including heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate and oxygen saturation. When an abnormal reading or increased clinical risk is detected, alerts are simultaneously sent to the patient’s smartphone, the treating doctor and a dedicated 24×7 central monitoring command centre.

According to the hospital, the technology has also helped prevent 81 ICU transfers and facilitated three CPR interventions during the monitoring period. The system is designed to detect early physiological changes that may indicate a developing medical emergency.

Mayur Dave, Facility Director at Marengo CIMS Hospital, said serious cardiac emergencies may be preceded by subtle changes in a patient’s physiological condition hours or even days before a critical event.

AI-Based Alerts and Remote Patient Monitoring

Marengo CIMS Hospital has been using the AI-enabled biosensor technology for more than two and a half years for patients at high risk of cardiac and other life-threatening conditions, according to Dr. Dhiren Shah, Director of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery and Heart Transplant Programme at the hospital.

Unlike conventional monitoring limited to the hospital setting, the platform continues to monitor patients after discharge and during home recovery. It allows doctors to remotely track high-risk individuals with conditions including heart failure, weakened heart function, stroke risk, asthma and other chronic diseases.

The platform continuously analyses patient data to generate early warning scores, risk assessments and real-time clinical summaries for treating physicians. A dedicated clinical team at the central monitoring command centre reviews alerts and coordinates with treating doctors when medical intervention may be required.

Impact on Emergency and ICU Care

According to the hospital, the system’s early identification capabilities have contributed to timely clinical intervention among patients showing signs of deterioration. The hospital said this approach has helped prevent 115 cardiac Code Blue emergencies and identify 836 instances of patient deterioration.

The technology has also reportedly contributed to reducing ICU stays and treatment costs by identifying patients at risk at an earlier stage and enabling timely intervention. The hospital said the platform has supported monitoring of more than 6,551 high-risk patients since its deployment.
