Hyderabad: Raids conducted by Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) led to the arrest of 10 unqualified practitioners from Shamshabad and Shadnagar. The raid was led by the chairman Dr Mahesh Kumar and vice-chairman Dr Srinivas Gundagani of the TSMC. They said that they identified around 100 clinics in the area, being run by non-qualified persons practicing allopathic medicine. Dr. Mahesh Kumar said “We found many antibiotic and corticosteroid injections which are supposed to be administered only by experts. These fake doctors are prescribing scheduled drugs irrationally to patients which is quite harmful to health and can cause complications like spine deformity, fertility issues in women and add to anti microbial resistance.”
With these 10 catches the total number of non-qualified practitioners caught by TSMC has risen to 300, said Dr Gundagani. “Antimicrobial resistance and steroid-induced immunity are major global threats today. Irrational administration of these drugs add to these threats,” he added. As per the National Medical Commission Act Sections 34 and 54, prescribing scheduled drugs, giving injections or practicing modern medicine without proper qualifications and registered licenses is a cognizable offence punishable up to one year imprisonment and `5 lakh fine, TSMC stated.
