Allegations of Surrogacy Law Violations
The Andhra Pradesh government has suspended three doctors allegedly linked to irregularities at the Universal Srushti Fertility Centre in Hyderabad. The case involves violations of the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act and the Juvenile Justice Act.
Doctors Named in the Case
Those suspended include:
Dr. Vasupalli Ravi, HoD of Anaesthesia, Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam
Dr. Usha Devi, Associate Professor, Gynaecology Department
Dr. A. Vidyullatha, Assistant Professor, Paediatrics, Srikakulam Government Medical College
All three had earlier been arrested by Hyderabad police in connection with the case.
Government’s Action
Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav directed officials to suspend the doctors from the date of their arrest, stressing that their continuation in service could hinder the investigation.
Delay in Suspension Explained
Although media reports of the arrests surfaced on August 9, the Andhra Pradesh government acted only after receiving formal communication from Telangana police on August 28. Officials cited this delay as the reason for late action.
Absence from Duties
Before the scandal broke, the suspended doctors had already stopped attending duties. College principals reportedly tried to reach them but were unsuccessful.
