T’puram: The Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) in Thiruvananthapuram has refuted allegations of being linked to biomedical waste reportedly found dumped in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu.

Effective Waste Management Protocols in Place

In a statement, RCC authorities emphasized that the institution follows stringent policies and protocols for waste management. Biomedical, food, and plastic waste generated at the hospital is handled in strict compliance with regulatory guidelines.

“All waste management activities are conducted under the supervision and control of the Hospital Infection Control Committee, ensuring adherence to disposal regulations without any lapses,” the statement said.

Clarification on Reports

The clarification comes amid reports that large quantities of biomedical waste, allegedly from Kerala, including the Thiruvananthapuram RCC, were found discarded at multiple locations in Tamil Nadu. RCC categorically denied any involvement, stating, “The institution is not responsible for the hospital waste discovered in Tirunelveli.”

The statement aims to address growing concerns and highlight RCC’s commitment to responsible and ethical waste management practices.
