A serious criminal case has been registered in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district against a private hospital doctor after allegations surfaced that he raped a Dalit woman employee on the pretext of marriage and later forced her to undergo an abortion. Police confirmed that the matter is currently under investigation.

The case was filed on June 2 following a written complaint by the victim at Dhampur police station. According to Station House Officer Mridul Kumar, initial inquiry is underway and further legal action will depend on the findings of the investigation.

According to the complaint, the accused doctor—who is married and belongs to another community—allegedly developed a relationship with the woman while she was employed at his private hospital in Habib Wala area. The woman has claimed that the relationship was built on a false promise of marriage.

The complaint further states that after she became pregnant, the doctor pressured her to terminate the pregnancy and allegedly forced her to undergo an abortion. Police officials have said they are verifying all allegations and collecting evidence as part of the ongoing probe.

The case has also triggered political attention after BJP MLA Om Kumar met the victim and expressed dissatisfaction over the initial police response. He alleged that proper provisions, including the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, were not initially applied and claimed procedural lapses in handling the complaint.

The MLA also alleged that the victim faced pressure related to religious conversion and dietary practices, though these claims are part of the ongoing investigation and have not been independently verified by authorities. He has raised the matter with senior police officials, following which the Superintendent of Police reportedly assured strict and comprehensive action.

Meanwhile, police officials have reiterated that the investigation is being conducted impartially and that all necessary legal provisions will be applied based on evidence gathered.

In a separate but related medical misconduct case, officials at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow had earlier removed an AYUSH practitioner from duty after allegations of molestation by a female patient during an ultrasound procedure were confirmed in an internal inquiry.

Authorities stated that strict action will be taken in all cases where misconduct or criminal allegations against healthcare professionals are proven, while ensuring due legal process in ongoing investigations.
