Pune: A doctor in Pune, who operates an acupressure clinic in Varvandi, Daund, has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a female patient during treatment and extorting a gold necklace through intimidation.
The patient accused the doctor of forcibly sexually assaulting her despite her resistance. She alleged that when she threatened to expose the incident, the doctor manipulated her by threatening to ruin her reputation. Following this, the doctor allegedly demanded a gold necklace, which the patient handed over in fear.
The incident took place on August 21, 2024, when the woman visited the clinic for treatment of a back ailment. According to her statement, what began as inappropriate advances escalated into coercion and sexual assault at various locations within the clinic.
The complainant claimed the doctor initially touched her inappropriately, and when she resisted, he forcibly took her to a private room within the clinic and assaulted her. Despite her attempts to resist and threatening to report him, she stated that the doctor continued to manipulate and coerce her.
Later, the doctor reportedly demanded a gold necklace from the victim, which she handed over. When she later asked for its return, he allegedly refused and issued further threats.
The victim then approached the police, who, based on substantial evidence, registered a case and arrested the doctor. He was presented in the Daund court and remanded to five days of police custody until December 16, 2024.
An investigation is currently ongoing.
