New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Wipro GE Healthcare Pvt Ltd to establish an AI Health Innovations Hub aimed at advancing healthcare delivery and outcomes.
The hub will focus on creating innovative products and solutions that improve diagnosis, treatment protocols, and real-time patient data tracking. Wipro GE Healthcare, as the technology partner, will invest around $1 million over the next five years to co-develop, test, and deploy intelligent systems and workflow solutions in cardiology, oncology, and neurology. AIIMS will contribute by providing clinical expertise, multi-modal inputs, and acting as a real-world clinical environment for testing, evaluation, and deployment of AI-powered healthcare solutions. A joint committee from both organizations will manage the collaboration, which will also involve clinical research and academic engagement.
AI technology is expected to revolutionize India’s healthcare system by 2025, potentially boosting the nation’s GDP by $25-30 billion, according to The National AI Portal of India (INDIAai). By integrating longitudinal data such as imaging, lab results, and medical records with AI analytics, the technology can improve diagnostics, streamline operations, and enhance patient care across the country.
Dr. M Srinivas, Director of AIIMS, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership, aligning with the national vision of “Viksit Bharat” through advanced healthcare. He highlighted AIIMS’ commitment to improving patient care through clinical research and practical applications and expressed optimism that the collaboration will accelerate the development of advanced medical technologies.
Parminder Bhatia, Chief AI Officer at GE Healthcare, noted the rapid growth of the Indian healthcare sector, driven by government policies and digital technologies. He described AI as a transformative force in democratizing healthcare, enhancing predictiveness, prevention, and precision. Bhatia expressed excitement about working with AIIMS to develop and validate innovative healthcare solutions that will improve patient outcomes.
Chaitanya Sarawate, Managing Director of Wipro GE Healthcare South Asia, emphasized that AI is central to the future of healthcare in India. He praised AIIMS for its transformative vision and its role in redefining patient care, describing the partnership as a significant step toward developing clinical care models that can benefit India and the world.
