Dr Shyam Vora found dead in hostel room; police launch probe, hospital denies harassment allegations

Pune: A 28-year-old resident doctor working at Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune was found dead in an apparent suicide at his hostel accommodation on Dhole Patil Road early Monday morning. The deceased has been identified as Dr Shyam Vora, a native of Gujarat who had been working in the hospital’s radiology department for the past two years.

According to police, Dr Vora’s roommate, also a doctor, returned from duty on Sunday night and found the door locked from inside. After repeated knocks went unanswered, the hostel’s security team was alerted. Police were eventually called in and forced open the door, discovering Vora had taken his own life. His body was sent to Sassoon Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

No foul play suspected, note recovered

Smartana Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2), confirmed that a suicide note was recovered from the room. The note reportedly did not hold anyone responsible for the act but contained personal information such as his phone password and UPI PIN.

A case of Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered at the Koregaon Park Police Station, and further investigations are underway to ascertain the circumstances that led to his death.

Hospital issues clarification, mourns loss

In a statement, Ruby Hall Clinic expressed deep condolences over Dr Vora’s death and addressed circulating rumours regarding possible workplace harassment.
“We would like to clarify that the ongoing media speculation regarding alleged workplace harassment is entirely unfounded and incorrect,” said Manjusha Kulkarni, the hospital’s legal advisor.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of Dr Vora during this incredibly difficult time.”

Police have informed Dr Vora’s family and are continuing their probe.
