A 58-year-old man posing as a doctor has been arrested by Anand Police in Gujarat for allegedly running an illegal medical practice for more than two decades without any valid medical qualification or registration, putting patients’ lives at serious risk.
Illegal Medical Practice Exposed in Anand
Acting on intelligence inputs, the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Anand Police carried out a targeted operation against unqualified medical practitioners in the region. The accused, a resident of Borsad, was allegedly operating a clinic from his home while falsely presenting himself as a qualified medical professional.
Police Raid and Seizure of Medicines
During the raid, police teams accompanied by a government medical officer searched the premises and recovered medicines and medical supplies used for treatment. Officials also seized cash along with medical materials, with the total value of recovered items estimated at around ₹4,550.
No Medical Registration or Qualification Found
When authorities asked the accused to produce a valid registration certificate from the Gujarat Medical Council, he reportedly failed to do so. Such registration is mandatory for anyone legally practising medicine in the state, confirming that the accused was operating without authorization.
Case Registered Under Gujarat Medical Practitioners Act
Following the investigation, Anand Rural Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Gujarat Medical Practitioners’ Act, 1963. Police officials have also begun probing the full extent of his activities, including whether others were involved or affected by his alleged illegal practice.
Similar Cases of Fake Doctors in India
This incident comes amid rising cases of fake or unqualified doctors across India. In a separate case reported earlier, another individual was arrested for impersonating a medical professional and continuing illegal medical practice even after previous legal action, highlighting ongoing concerns over public health safety and regulatory enforcement.
