
New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the seat matrix for NEET PG 2025 counselling, revealing a total of 49,907 postgraduate medical seats across 68 MD, MS, and PG Diploma specialities. The updated matrix has been published by the Gujarat Admission Committee for Professional Post Graduate Medical Courses (ACPPGMEC) on its official website, providing a State/UT-wise and speciality-wise breakup of available seats.
Among MD courses, General Medicine offers the highest number of seats at 5,469, followed by Anaesthesiology with 4,947, Paediatrics at 3,527, Pathology at 2,916, and Radio Diagnosis at 2,659 seats. Other notable MD specialities include Microbiology (1,590), Dermatology (1,455), Psychiatry (1,312), and Community Medicine (1,801). Certain niche specialities have very limited availability, such as MD Emergency Medicine (3 seats), MD Bio Physics (1 seat), MD Interventional Radiology (1 seat), and MD Aviation Medicine (10 seats).
For MS courses, General Surgery leads with 4,915 seats, followed by Obstetrics & Gynaecology with 4,060, Orthopaedics at 3,027, Ophthalmology at 2,057, and Otorhinolaryngology at 1,629. Diploma courses offer fewer seats, with Anaesthesia having the highest at 93, followed by Obstetrics & Gynaecology (52), Ophthalmology (53), Child Health (33), and Sports Medicine (6).
Earlier, the NMC approved 2,337 new postgraduate medical seats for NEET PG 2025, with Karnataka receiving the largest share at 422 additional seats, followed by Gujarat (247) and Uttar Pradesh (233).
This expanded seat matrix is aimed at improving access to postgraduate medical education across India, addressing the increasing demand for specialised healthcare professionals.
