Vijayapura – A medical student from Al-Ameen Medical College has been booked under serious provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly posting a “pro-Pakistan” message on social media amid the ongoing Indo-Pak conflict.
The accused, identified as Tasaud Farooqui Sheik, triggered widespread outrage after she posted a message advising Pakistani nationals and residents of India-Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IOJK) and Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) to avoid military or government installations and relocate away from the border. The post concluded with “May Allah protect us all from India. Ameen” and was accompanied by a Pakistani flag emoji.
Following strong protests by Hindu organisations, the Vijayapura Rural Police took suo motu cognisance of the matter and registered an FIR under:
- Section 152 – Actions endangering India’s sovereignty, unity, and integrity
- Sections 197(3) and 197(5) – Imputations and assertions prejudicial to national integration
under the newly enacted Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Speaking to IANS, Police Sub-Inspector Vinod Doddamani confirmed that the student had been located in Mumbai, and legal proceedings are underway. Police have begun tracing her digital activity and may summon her for further questioning.
The student reportedly also posted similar content as her WhatsApp status, further amplifying public backlash and fuelling calls for strict action.
Public Apology Issued
In the wake of the FIR and online backlash, Sheik issued a public apology, stating:
“My post on Instagram has caused pain to many people. I sincerely apologise… I am an Indian and I love my country. This is my motherland. Making such comments was an act of foolishness. I will never repeat this mistake.”
She ended her apology with a “Jai Hind” message, attempting to reaffirm her allegiance.
Investigation Ongoing
Police officials have indicated that further investigation is underway, including scrutiny of the student’s digital communication and possible violations of additional laws. The college administration has not yet issued an official statement.
