Attack in Urban Estate
A city-based nephrologist was shot in the right leg on Tuesday evening when two unidentified assailants opened fire outside a market in Jalandhar’s Urban Estate area. The doctor, who runs a private hospital, was returning to his car after shopping when he was attacked.
Scuffle Before Firing
CCTV footage revealed that the attackers first engaged in a scuffle with the doctor before shooting him and fleeing. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, police said.
Police Investigation Underway
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation) Manpreet Singh Dhillon, who visited the scene, confirmed that CCTV recordings had provided crucial leads. “We have constituted multiple teams for a detailed investigation, and the case will be cracked soon,” he said.
Victim Stable, No Prior Threats
The injured doctor, identified as Dr. Sood, told investigators he had never received threats or extortion calls in the past. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where his condition is reported to be stable.
Rising Attacks on Doctors
This incident comes amid a series of assaults on medical professionals in Jalandhar. Recently, a doctor at Patel Hospital was attacked by miscreants in a parking area, following which police arrested three suspects.
