BALTIMORE, USA – A high-level delegation from India’s National Medical Commission (NMC), led by Dr. Raghav Langer and Dr. M.K. Ramesh, has concluded a strategic regulatory visit to the United States. Participating as a “special invitee” at the 114th Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) Annual Meeting in Baltimore (April 30–May 2, 2026), the team engaged with global counterparts on improving medical education standards, ethics, and AI integration.

Strengthening Global Opportunities
A key focus was enhancing pathways for Indian medical graduates (IMGs) to pursue training in the U.S. The delegation held discussions with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) regarding credentialing, “sponsor notes,” and ECFMG certification processes, aiming to streamline entry into accredited residency programs.

Institutional Collaboration and Benchmarking
The visit included meetings with the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) to discuss modern assessment tools, relevant to India’s National Exit Test (NExT). Furthermore, discussions focused on National Medical Register data integrity and state-level licensing compacts.

A Future-Focused Strategy
Through these engagements with U.S. medical boards, the International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities (IAMRA), and Indian-origin physicians, the NMC aims to ensure international recognition of Indian medical degrees and bolster the nation’s role in global healthcare, signaling a new era of regulatory excellence for India’s 818 medical colleges.
