Telangana Medical Council Recommends Action Against Traya After Inspection Finds Alleged Irregularities in Online Hair-Loss Treatment Services

The Telangana Medical Council (TMC) has recommended initiating legal action against Traya Hair Loss Solutions, one of India’s leading digital hair-loss treatment platforms, following allegations of unauthorised medical practices. The recommendation comes after a surprise inspection reportedly revealed that the company was offering hair-loss consultations and treatment services through online platforms without proper clinical registration and in the absence of qualified dermatologists.

According to the council, the inspection was conducted on June 10 as part of a wider drive targeting skin and hair clinics in Hyderabad’s Kondapur area. During the visit, inspectors allegedly found that Traya was providing hair-loss treatment through online consultations without obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals and specialist oversight required for such medical services.

Action Recommended Under NMC Act

Taking note of the findings, the Telangana Medical Council has proposed action under Sections 34 and 54 of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act, 2019, along with other applicable legal provisions.

Section 34 of the NMC Act prohibits any person who is not enrolled as a registered medical practitioner in the State or National Medical Register from practising medicine as a qualified medical professional. Section 54 relates to the cognisance of offences under the Act and outlines the legal process for initiating prosecution.

The council has also warned that registered medical practitioners found supporting or facilitating unauthorised medical activities could face disciplinary proceedings under Medical Ethics Regulations, including suspension of their medical licences after due inquiry.

Multiple Irregularities Found During Hyderabad Inspections

The inspection of Traya Hair Loss Solutions was part of a broader enforcement exercise carried out by the Telangana Medical Council across multiple skin and hair treatment centres in Hyderabad.

Apart from Traya, officials reportedly identified irregularities at Neoskin Clinic, where skin and hair treatments were allegedly being provided without the presence of a qualified dermatologist and without necessary approvals. At ORA Aesthetics, inspectors allegedly found certain skin and hair-related aesthetic procedures being performed by dentists.

Speaking to media, Dr. A. Sunny Davis, Chairman of the Legal and Anti-Quackery Committee of the Telangana Medical Council, stated that action would be initiated against institutions found violating medical regulations. He further noted that disciplinary action could also be taken against registered doctors associated with unauthorised or unethical medical practices.

Spotlight on Online Healthcare Platforms

The development has drawn significant attention due to Traya’s growing prominence in India’s digital healthcare and wellness sector. The platform has gained popularity for offering personalised hair-care plans through an online consultation model and has built a substantial customer base through aggressive digital marketing and celebrity-backed campaigns.

The council’s findings have reignited discussions around regulatory oversight of rapidly expanding online healthcare platforms and the level of medical supervision required when delivering treatment services remotely.

The Telangana Medical Council has stated that it will recommend legal action by the Hyderabad District Collector and the District Medical and Health Officer against establishments engaged in unauthorised medical practices to safeguard public health and patient safety.
