The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Maharashtra has declared a state-wide agitation in protest against the Maharashtra Medical Council’s (MMC) recent decision. The agitation will include a symbolic one-day strike on September 18, 2025.

Trigger Behind the Protest

The announcement comes in response to MMC’s move to launch an online portal for the registration of doctors holding a Certificate Course in Modern Pharmacology (CCMP). The portal is set to become operational from September 17, 2025.

Concerns Over CCMP Registration

IMA has raised objections to the registration process for CCMP-qualified doctors. The association argues that such a step could create confusion within the medical community and impact the professional standing of registered practitioners.

One-Day Strike as a Warning

By calling a token one-day strike, IMA Maharashtra intends to send a strong message to the authorities. The protest is described as a warning agitation, reflecting the growing dissatisfaction among medical practitioners across the state.

Demand for Dialogue

IMA has urged the state government and MMC to reconsider the decision and open dialogue with medical professionals before implementing such measures. They believe proper consultation is necessary to avoid disruption in the healthcare system.

Growing Tensions in Medical Fraternity

The issue has already sparked intense debate within the medical fraternity. With the strike set for September 18, healthcare services in Maharashtra may witness disruptions, as doctors express solidarity with IMA’s call for agitation.
