Ballari: A fifth maternal death in a month was reported at the government-run Ballari hospital on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Sumaya, a resident of Kudligi.
Hospital records indicate that Sumaya was admitted on November 11 and underwent a caesarean section the same day. Following post-surgery complications, she was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Ballari Medical College and Research Centre (BMCRC), where she remained for 24 days.
BMCRC Director T. Gangadhara Gouda informed the media that despite doctors’ best efforts, Sumaya succumbed to multi-organ failure at approximately 8 p.m. on Thursday.
Newborn Death Reported
In a separate incident, a newborn also passed away at BMCRC on Thursday. While the infant’s family accused the doctors of negligence, hospital authorities denied the allegations.
