Authorities urge citizens to verify credentials amid rising cases of medical fraud in India
Dimapur : A man posing as a doctor for several years without any legitimate medical degree or registration has been arrested in Dimapur, Nagaland, following a complaint by the Nagaland Medical Council. The accused, identified as a resident of NST Colony, had been fraudulently practicing medicine in the city’s commercial hub, endangering numerous patients over time.
Police Confirm Fraudulent Medical Practice
Preliminary investigations revealed the individual, who falsely claimed to have earned an MBBS degree from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, had never completed even a year of study there. He reportedly ingratiated himself with legitimate doctors and managed to gain public trust, masquerading as a licensed medical professional.
Legal Action Underway
A case has been registered under the Medical Council Act, 2014, and other criminal statutes related to impersonation and illegal medical practice. The police are now examining the full extent of his patient history and any potential harm caused.
Public Advisory Issued
In the wake of this revelation, Dimapur Police issued a public advisory, urging citizens to verify the credentials of healthcare providers through the State Medical Council’s registry. They emphasized community responsibility in maintaining a safe healthcare environment.
This case comes amid a string of similar incidents reported across India, raising serious concerns about gaps in healthcare regulation and enforcement.
