3-Day-Old Baby Abducted from Miraj Government HospitalWoman Posing as Relative Seen Fleeing with Infant, Police Launch Search Operation

Sangli:
A shocking incident has rocked the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Miraj, where a woman allegedly abducted a three-day-old baby boy from the maternity ward on Saturday afternoon. The suspect reportedly lured the child’s mother, Kavita Aldar, by claiming the infant was due for a vaccination, before fleeing the premises.

Suspect Caught on CCTV, Autorickshaw Driver Interrogated
Surveillance footage revealed the woman leaving the hospital around 12:15 p.m. with a bag, boarding an autorickshaw to Ankali Phata, located 11 km away. Police teams have since launched a manhunt, questioning the rickshaw driver and appealing to the public for information.

Mother Deceived During Vulnerable Moment
Kavita, a resident of Sangola tehsil in Solapur, had just given birth on Thursday. According to her father, the suspect had gained the family’s trust by pretending to be a visitor whose cousin had delivered a baby, frequently checking in on the mother and newborn.

Hospital Faces Scrutiny Over Security Lapses
The GMCH has initiated an internal investigation. Acting Dean Dr. Srikant Hankare acknowledged the ward’s overcrowding and said stricter visitor verification protocols would be enforced. “Only one verified relative will be allowed with patients from now on,” he stated.

Public Outcry and Demand for Accountability
The incident has sparked outrage among local residents. “After the recent theft of an oxygen pipe, this abduction highlights serious security failures,” said Zaheer Ahmad of the Miraj Sudhar Samiti, calling it an administrative lapse.

Police continue their search for the woman as the hospital prepares to submit its official report within two days.
