Mumbai: Dr Anita Borges, one of India’s most respected cancer pathologists, passed away yesterday in Gorakhpur following a heart attack at the age of 73. Widely regarded as the “Queen of Histopathology,” her pioneering career spanned over five decades, during which she significantly shaped cancer diagnostics in India.


Illustrious Career and Contributions

Dr Borges served at leading institutions such as Tata Memorial Hospital and S.L. Raheja Hospital, eventually heading the Centre for Oncopathology in Mumbai. Her precise histopathology reports were instrumental in guiding oncologists and surgeons, ensuring accurate and timely treatment for thousands of cancer patients across the country.

Beyond her diagnostic expertise, Dr Borges was celebrated as a mentor and teacher.
