Dharamshala is set to witness a significant upgrade in its healthcare infrastructure as the AYUSH Department has initiated the construction of a modern, integrated AYUSH hospital near the district Ayurvedic hospital. The project aims to strengthen access to traditional systems of medicine while reducing dependency on distant urban healthcare facilities.

Modern AYUSH Facility Under National Mission

The upcoming hospital is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹12.5 crore under the National AYUSH Mission (NAM). Designed as a four-storey facility with a capacity of 50 beds, the hospital will offer a comprehensive range of treatments under one roof, including Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy.

Focus on Panchakarma and Specialized Care

A key highlight of the project is its dedicated Panchakarma therapy section. The facility will feature specialized wards equipped to deliver structured detoxification and rejuvenation therapies. This addition is expected to enhance the effectiveness of traditional treatments in a clinical setting.

Advanced Infrastructure and Specialist Support

Officials have confirmed that the hospital will include private wards, modern medical equipment, and upgraded infrastructure comparable to private healthcare institutions. To ensure efficient functioning, six specialist positions have been approved, enabling the hospital to cater to a wider range of health conditions, particularly chronic and lifestyle-related diseases.

Reducing Patient Burden and Travel

The new hospital is expected to significantly reduce the need for residents to travel to other cities for treatment. This will not only save time and costs for patients but also improve accessibility to quality healthcare services within the region.

Boost to Traditional Medicine in Himachal Pradesh

By integrating advanced facilities with traditional treatment systems, the project is likely to promote wider acceptance of AYUSH practices in the region. It aligns with the government’s broader vision of strengthening alternative medicine alongside conventional healthcare.

Construction Progress on Track

District AYUSH Officer Brij Nandan Sharma confirmed that construction is currently underway and progressing as planned. He stated that the project is expected to be completed within the stipulated timeline and will play a crucial role in enhancing healthcare delivery in Dharamshala.

This development marks a significant step toward improving healthcare accessibility while reinforcing the importance of India’s traditional medical systems.
