Public Trust in Ayurveda Growing, Says Minister Dayashankar Mishra
Varanasi: Uttar Pradesh AYUSH Minister Dr Dayashankar Mishra has announced that modern resources and advanced equipment will soon be introduced in Ayurveda hospitals across the state to strengthen surgical services. He stated that public confidence in Ayurveda has increased significantly and that expanding surgical facilities remains a key priority for the AYUSH department.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day Sushrut Kon-2026 conference held at the Government Ayurveda College in Varanasi, Dr Mishra said the government is committed to enhancing the quality of Ayurvedic healthcare by integrating modern infrastructure and technology into Ayurveda hospitals.
Focus on Advancing Ayurvedic Surgery
Highlighting the importance of the conference, the minister noted that live surgical demonstrations are being conducted as part of the academic programme, enabling participants to observe specialised procedures and gain practical insights from experienced practitioners.
Dr Mishra described Varanasi as the land of Lord Dhanvantari and Acharya Sushruta, widely regarded as the father of surgery. He said Sushruta’s contributions continue to inspire advancements in Ayurvedic surgical practices and medical education.
Live Surgical Demonstrations Draw Attention
On the first day of the conference, doctors performed free live surgeries on 10 patients suffering from haemorrhoids and fistula-in-ano. The procedures provided delegates with an opportunity to observe clinical techniques and real-time patient management.
Dr Arun, the programme coordinator, said the workshop was designed to provide hands-on exposure and strengthen the surgical expertise of participating doctors.
Experts Share Insights on Surgical Education and Patient Care
The conference also featured academic lectures by Padma Shri Prof. K.K. Thakral and Padma Shri Prof. Manoranjan Sahu, who shared their knowledge and experience on various aspects of surgical education, clinical training, and patient care.
Dr Mishra praised the doctors, surgeons, and faculty members participating in the event, stating that such academic programmes play a crucial role in promoting knowledge exchange, professional development, and skill enhancement among healthcare practitioners.

The session was chaired by Principal Dr D.K. Maurya and attended by several senior faculty members and medical professionals, including Prof. Shivji Gupta, Dr Anil Tripathi, Dr Alok Gupta, Dr Manoj Yadav, Prof. Sudha Singh, Prof. Suman Yadav, Dr Raman Singh, Dr Anand Vidhyarthi, Dr Mrigank Shekhar, Dr Aruna Dutta Rajouri, Dr Shruti Singh, Dr B.N. Maurya, Dr Yogesh Mishra, Dr Yogesh Gupta, Dr Hariom Singh, and Dr Prabhat Sonkar.
The conference aims to strengthen surgical knowledge among Ayurveda practitioners while promoting the adoption of contemporary techniques and best clinical practices across the country.
