Racket Exposed

Delhi Police have arrested 10 people, including a doctor, for allegedly trafficking newborns and selling them to childless couples for sums between ₹1.8 lakh and ₹7.5 lakh using forged adoption papers. Six infants, all under the age of one, were rescued during the operation.

Doctor, Middleman Among Accused

The accused include Dr. Kamlesh Kumar (33), owner of K.K. Hospital in Agra, who allegedly facilitated deliveries at advanced stages where abortions were not possible and then sold the infants. Police identified Sundar (35) as the main middleman linking biological parents and buyers. Two sisters — Krishna (28), a final-year BAMS student, and Preeti (30), a BAMS graduate — were also arrested.

Complaint Leads to Breakthrough

The case came to light after Suresh, a resident of U.P., filed a complaint about his six-month-old child’s disappearance at Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan bus terminal on August 22. A case was registered under the BNS kidnapping and trafficking provisions and the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.

High-Speed Chase and Nationwide Links

Police first arrested Veerbhan (30) in Fatehabad, who admitted to abducting the baby. His leads took investigators to Dr. Kamlesh, who confessed to paying for the abduction. Kamlesh then led police to Sundar, nabbed after a 50-km chase on the U.P.-Rajasthan border. The abducted infant was recovered from a couple in Agra.

Wider Network Uncovered

Further raids in Nainital, Agra, Lucknow and Fatehabad exposed an inter-State trafficking racket spanning Delhi, U.P., Hyderabad, Chennai and Uttarakhand, targeting vulnerable families at bus stands and railway stations.

Babies in Safe Custody

While one rescued infant has been reunited with parents, the remaining five are in the custody of child welfare homes pending orders from the Child Welfare Committee. Police said investigations into the larger trafficking network are ongoing.
