MoU Signed for Advanced Healthcare in Bastar

Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Continental Hospitals, Telangana to operate a 240-bed super speciality hospital in Jagdalpur, Bastar district. The hospital, built at a cost of Rs 200 crore, will provide health services at government-prescribed rates.

The MoU was signed under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) in the presence of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal at Mantralaya, Raipur.

Bringing World-Class Healthcare to Tribal Regions

Chief Minister Sai highlighted the hospital’s significance, saying it will bring advanced medical care closer to citizens, particularly in tribal areas. Previously, patients had to travel to cities like Raipur and Bilaspur for specialised treatment.

He also emphasised the hospital’s strategic importance for security forces engaged in anti-Naxal operations, enabling timely treatment for injured personnel without airlifting them to Raipur.

Funding and Infrastructure

The Rs 200 crore project is funded with Rs 120 crore from the central government and Rs 80 crore by the state, alongside contributions from NMDC, the iron ore mining corporation operating in Dantewada.

Spread over 11 acres, the 10-storey hospital will house specialised departments including:

  • Cardiology – Heart disease
  • Nephrology – Kidney disease
  • Neurology & Neurosurgery – Brain and nerve disorders
  • Urology – Urinary system
  • Gastroenterology – Digestive system

Facilities and Services

The hospital will provide advanced OPD, ICU, and emergency services, staffed by expert doctors. Health services will be offered at government rates, making high-quality care accessible to Bastar division residents and patients from across Chhattisgarh.

Health Secretary Amit Kataria confirmed the hospital is expected to be inaugurated on November 1, coinciding with Chhattisgarh Statehood Day.
