Jaunpur: A violent confrontation erupted at Amar Shaheed Umanath Singh District Hospital on Friday night when a group of 20-25 transgender individuals, some reportedly naked, stormed the emergency ward in protest. The attackers allegedly assaulted doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and ward attendants after being asked to file an FIR in connection with an earlier assault case involving one of their members.
The 45-minute incident left four hospital staff seriously injured and created panic among patients and attendants, who were alarmed by the attackers running naked through the emergency ward and damaging hospital property by climbing on surgical tables.
The altercation began around 8:45 PM after a transgender person sought treatment for injuries from an earlier assault. Alleging denial of medical care and abusive behavior by hospital staff, the patient called community leader Akshita, who brought the group to confront the medical team. Hospital staff, however, stated they requested an FIR be filed first, which escalated tensions into violence.
Hospital administration and security guards reportedly did not intervene during the chaos. Police arrived after most attackers had fled, and an FIR was registered under attempt to murder charges. CCTV footage is under review for identifying and arresting suspects, said Station House Officer Mithilesh.
District Magistrate Dr. Dinesh Chandra has ordered an impartial investigation into both the hospital incident and the original assault on the transgender individual. He emphasized the importance of a fair inquiry before attributing blame and assured that justice would be pursued for all parties involved.
