Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has submitted a chargesheet in the financial corruption case involving RG Kar Medical College. The chargesheet, which exceeds 100 pages, was filed in Alipore court on Friday, November 29, along with over 1,000 pages of supporting documents.

Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, is named in the chargesheet along with four other individuals, who were arrested earlier in the investigation.

Dr. Ghosh was the first to be arrested following several days of questioning at the CBI office. He was later joined by Biplab Singh, Afsar Ali, and Suman Hazra, who were arrested in connection with the case. Ashish Pandey, a Trinamool student leader and Ghosh’s close associate, was the last to be apprehended. Pandey is also accused of fostering a ‘threat culture’ within the hospital.

The investigation had previously led to the arrest of Dr. Ghosh and Abhijit Mondal, the then Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tala police station, for allegedly tampering with evidence.

The charges allege that financial corruption had been ongoing at RG Kar Medical College for more than three years, involving the manipulation of tenders for purchasing medical equipment. Dr. Ghosh is accused of awarding these tenders exclusively to his close associates.

Following directives from the high court, the CBI conducted searches across multiple locations linked to the case, including raids at the residences of several hospital managers.
