New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has been officially recognized as a Centre of Excellence for Rare Diseases by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India, on Saturday, November 30.

Announcing the news on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, AIIMS New Delhi shared its commitment to advancing the diagnosis, treatment, and research of rare and unidentified diseases.

Focus on Rare Diseases

The Centre will provide a range of services, including:

  • Diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases.
  • Counseling and prevention strategies for patients and families.
  • Educational support for those affected.
  • Ongoing research initiatives targeting rare conditions.

The Centre aims to address the unique challenges posed by rare diseases, many of which remain difficult to diagnose or treat due to limited understanding and high costs.

Crowdfunding Portal

To address the financial burden of treatment, AIIMS has launched a crowdfunding portal in collaboration with MoHFW. This platform, accessible at rarediseases.mohfw.gov.in, facilitates the collection of funds to support patient care and related research projects.

The post emphasized the portal’s role in alleviating the cost of treatment, making life-saving care more accessible for those in need.

AIIMS Legacy

Established in 1956, AIIMS New Delhi continues to be a leader in medical education and healthcare delivery, reaffirming its dedication to addressing complex medical challenges through this new designation.
