Bongaigaon, January 3, 2026: Dr. Murarilal Agrawala, a highly respected physician from Bongaigaon, passed away suddenly on Tuesday following a prolonged illness. Known for his warmth, humility, and compassionate approach, he was celebrated not only as a doctor but also as a trusted pillar of the community.

Early Life and Education
Born in Pathsala, Dr. Agrawala completed his early schooling locally before pursuing medical education at Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh. He earned his MBBS in 1974, followed by an MD in 1979, laying the foundation for a lifetime of service in healthcare.

Medical Career and Contributions
In 1979, Dr. Agrawala began his medical practice in Bongaigaon by opening a small clinic that charged a nominal consultation fee of just five rupees, ensuring affordable healthcare for all. In 1985, he established SM Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, the town’s first private hospital, which became a landmark in the region’s medical history.

Community Tributes
Following his demise, floral tributes poured in from diverse sections of society. Organisations such as Shri Agrawal Samaj Sabha, Marwari Sammelan, Marwari Yuva Manch, Terapanth Sabha, Shri Digambar Jain Samaj, Indian Medical Association, Greater Bongaigaon Chamber of Commerce, Bongaigaon Municipal Board, and numerous others expressed their grief and respect.

Political and Administrative Condolences
Bongaigaon MLA Diptimayee Choudhury and District Commissioner Navdeep Pathak led the district administration in paying homage. Several nursing homes, institutions, and individuals also joined in commemorating Dr. Agrawala’s contributions to society.

Respect During Funeral Procession
Traders across Bongaigaon closed their establishments as a mark of respect. During the funeral procession, people stood silently along the streets with folded hands, paying their final respects to a man who dedicated his life to healing others.

Various social organisations and citizens described his passing as a profound loss to Bongaigaon society. Dr. Agrawala’s life was remembered as a testament to selfless service, compassion, and dedication to healthcare.

Family Survivors
Dr. Agrawala is survived by his son, Dr. Vikas Agrawal, his daughter, Dr. Suchi Chakravarty, and a close-knit family, who continue to uphold his legacy of medical service and community care, reports The Sentinel.
