Recognition for Quality Healthcare
Four Health and Wellness Centres (Ayushman Arogya Mandirs) in Bihar—Chunapur HWC (Purnia), Pariya HWC (Madhepura), Bishaspur HWC (Muzaffarpur), and Barauni HWC (Begusarai)—have been awarded the prestigious National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification. This certification recognizes public health facilities that meet national benchmarks for patient-centric, safe, and high-quality care.
About NQAS Certification
Launched by the Government of India, the NQAS program evaluates public health facilities against a set of predefined standards. Certification is granted to centres that demonstrate excellence in service delivery, clinical care, infrastructure, and management practices. It serves as a formal acknowledgment of the facility’s commitment to maintaining quality healthcare.
Bihar’s Healthcare Quality Initiative
The Bihar Health Department has set an ambitious goal to certify all Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) in the state under NQAS by the end of 2025. Dr. Mahadev Singh, an NQAS official, highlighted the importance of collective efforts by healthcare teams in achieving certification.
National Context
This development follows similar milestones in other states. Kerala, for instance, recently saw 200 government hospitals receive NQAS accreditation, including Chinnakkanal Family Health Centre (Idukki), Vengappally Family Health Centre (Wayanad), and Muthanga Public Health Centre (Wayanad), achieving high scores under the national quality standards initiative.
The certification of these four HWCs underscores Bihar’s commitment to improving healthcare quality at the grassroots level and strengthening public health infrastructure across the state.
