Institute says no ragging complaint was filed during student’s tenure, maintains examination process was transparent and videographed
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jodhpur has issued an official statement denying allegations of ragging, academic harassment and unfair evaluation made by a former MCh Neurosurgery student, stating that no ragging complaint was filed during the student’s tenure and that the matter is currently pending before the Rajasthan High Court.
The clarification comes after the former MCh Neurosurgery student alleged that he faced years of academic harassment after reporting ragging by a senior. Addressing a press conference in Jodhpur, the doctor from the 2020–2023 batch claimed that he was deliberately failed in the final examination on three consecutive occasions after filing a ragging complaint in 2021.
According to the doctor, he cleared the examination only on his fourth attempt after an independent external assessment was conducted under strict security arrangements. He further alleged that despite assurances from Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel regarding an inquiry into his complaint, no effective action had been taken. He also informed that the matter is currently pending before the court.
Responding through its official account on social media platform X, AIIMS Jodhpur stated that news reports and social media posts were based on allegations raised by a former student but did not reflect the institute’s official records.
According to AIIMS Jodhpur, the institute has a robust anti-ragging mechanism, and no complaint of ragging was made by the student during his period of study. The institute stated that the allegation was raised for the first time only in July 2023, after the declaration of the student’s final MCh examination result.
The institute also emphasised that it follows a transparent examination system, with external examiners from reputed medical institutions across the country participating in the evaluation process.
AIIMS Jodhpur further stated that after the student raised concerns regarding the examination, the entire examination process was videographed to ensure transparency.
Since the matter is presently sub judice before the Rajasthan High Court, the institute said it would be inappropriate to comment further on what it described as unverified allegations.
In its official statement, AIIMS Jodhpur said, “News items have been published in newspapers and on social media platforms reporting allegations raised by a former student. AIIMS Jodhpur has a robust anti-ragging system, and as per institute records, no ragging complaint was made by the student during his tenure. The allegation was first raised only in July 2023 after the declaration of his final MCh examination result. The institute follows a very transparent examination system and comprises external examiners from reputed institutes across the country. The whole examination was videographed after the complaint of the examinee. The matter is sub judice before the Hon’ble High Court of Rajasthan, and it would be inappropriate to comment on unverified allegations.”
