Chennai: A young mother, Punitha, tragically lost her life following a series of alleged lapses at a private clinic, leaving her family devastated and raising serious questions about medical accountability. The family has taken the matter to court, accusing the clinic staff of gross negligence.
The incident occurred at a private clinic owned by Dr. Shanmugam. According to the family’s statement, Punitha began experiencing complications shortly after childbirth. However, both Dr. Shanmugam and the attending physician, Dr. Ravi, reportedly left the delivery room soon after the procedure, leaving nurses to handle the situation.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as nurses scrambled to control heavy bleeding with cotton pads and attempted to locate the absent doctors. Punitha’s mother recalled seeing her daughter grow cold, struggling to breathe, while her condition rapidly deteriorated. Despite the nurses’ efforts, the doctors remained unavailable for nearly two hours during the critical period.
The young mother was eventually transferred to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery but succumbed to her condition shortly afterward.
“This is sheer negligence,” said Punitha’s grieving mother. “Had the doctors stayed and acted promptly, my daughter might still be alive.”
The case has sparked outrage, with calls for stricter regulations and accountability in healthcare practices. The family has urged authorities to investigate the clinic and hold those responsible to account.
Health officials have yet to comment on the matter. Meanwhile, Punitha’s tragic death serves as a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of medical negligence.
